Gnáthóga Nádúrtha | Natural Habitats Drummin Bog Walk, Talks and Activities Afternoon: Sunday 12 Nov. All Welcome!

Please join us on Sunday 12th November for an afternoon of fun, creativity and nature-based activities celebrating our nearby peatlands.

Make a wish on muslin for the Gangers Hut. Weave a remnant on a weaver’s frame. Learn about plant lore, making teas from wild plants, and old dairy ways of butter-making. Create your own bog colours postcard, draw bog plants, and hear short talks from the artists involved – the afternoon will be a variety of fun activities with something for everyone. All welcome.

N.B. Earlier in the day: scheduled walk on Drummin Bog at 11.30am for those interested.

Gather beforehand at Drummond Hall @11.15am (beside Drummond Church R95 DH34 )

For further info please email Jules at: julesmichael.studio@gmail.com

If you are doing the bog walk, be prepared for uneven ground, and wear outdoor clothing and footwear.

Please bring a packed lunch if you intend to stay for the whole day.

This event is one of three sessions rotating around the three peatland sites of Drummin, St. Mullins, Co. Carlow, Girley Bog, Kells, Co. Meath, and the Cluain Rúisc remnant, Rathangan, Co. Kildare.

The sessions are part of Gnáthóga Nádúrtha/Natural Habitats, funded by the Arts Council Invitation to Collaboration Scheme. It is led by Carlow Arts Services, working together with Kildare and Meath Arts Services.

The third and final session will be in Kells, Co. Meath on Saturday 18th November. Please watch this space for further details!!

PLEASE NOTE: Access to Drummin Bog is limited due to the sensitive nature of the habitat and its status as a wildlife reserve. Great precaution must be taken in visiting the bog due to its unmarked deep drains, and other hazards. It is therefore recommended people do not walk on the bog alone. Children must always be supervised and no dogs please as efforts are in place to encourage birds to return. Thank you for understanding. In time, a woodland walkway is envisaged. The Drummin Bog Project is in its very early stages.

Volunteering– Have you been wondering how to contribute positively and locally in this time of evident climate change? Bogs are precious sites for carbon storage and much more. Come and help protect Drummin Bog, its flora and fauna, learn the science and appreciate the beauty
