Join us to celebrate some of the stories of Carlow’s Drummin Bog, 11 am Sat. 12 Aug. at Drummond Hall!!

Gathering Stories of Drummin Bog’ -presentation with Oral Historian Adrian Roche

This oral history project is being carried out to gather and preserve the recollections and memories of some of the individuals and families who grew up in the vicinity of Drummin Bog, which is the only example of a raised bog here in Co Carlow.

The talk will outline what oral history is, how it is collected, and the importance of preserving local
memories.

We also hope to play a few audio clips from those stories already collected.

We are currently interviewing a number of local people who have recollections of the bog, as well as some of the scientists who have carried out a variety of surveys to help preserve this important landscape and habitat.

Drummin Bog is a unique natural heritage site, and the conservation and restoration of this special area provide an opportunity to preserve this distinctive ecosystem.

If you would like to contribute any family stories and memories about the bog, please contact Adrian on 087 257 8678, or info@thehistorytrail.ie.

PLEASE NOTE: Access to Drummin Bog is limited due to the sensitive nature of the habitat and its status as a wildlife reserve. Great precaution must be taken in visiting the bog due to its unmarked deep drains, and other hazards. It is therefore recommended people do not walk on the bog alone. Children must always be supervised and no dogs please as efforts are in place to encourage birds to return. Thank you for understanding. In time, a woodland walkway is envisaged. The Drummin Bog Project is in its very early stages.
