Drummin Bog welcomes Minister Chris O’Sullivan and County Carlow Council Staff

We were so pleased to share the story of the Drummin Bog Project with Minister Chris O’Sullivan, a keen birder. We acknowledge all of the support from the different departments of Carlow County Council and regional NPWS staff who also visited.

These include The County Carlow Arts Office with Arts Officer Aileen Nolan, County Library with John Shortall, Heritage with Eoin O’Sullivan, and County Manager, Coilín O’Reilly.

The Minister was treated to a very fine sunny day to visit Drummin Bog last Tues, 25 November 2025.

Martin Lyttle of the Drummin Bog Committee sharing the story of Drummin’s bog’s ongoing restoration

Drummin Bog Project Committee member and former geologist, Martin Lyttle, was delighted to share news of the ongoing peatland restoration work. Martin also discussed past community engagement and future visions for the Drummin Bog Project. Also attending were committee members Ciarán Suter and Cathy Fitzgerald.

The Minister Chris O’Sullivan very much enjoyed his visit. He wishes to share his deep thanks to the committee, all the volunteers in the region, the local schools, and different wildlife organisations. These groups have all helped make the small Drummin Bog Project so successful.

Minister with responsibility for Nature Restoration, Chris O’Sullivan

The Drummin Bog Project was delighted with all the visitors, and particularly how this project connects to the St Mullins Heritage and Borris Lace and Biodiversity Projects that Minister Chris O’Sullivan also visited in the South County Carlow area.

Our grateful thanks to the County Carlow Council Staff for all the arrangements.

PLEASE NOTE: Access to Drummin Bog is limited due to the sensitive nature of the habitat and its status as a wildlife reserve. Great precaution must be taken in visiting the bog due to its unmarked deep drains, and other hazards. It is therefore recommended people do not walk on the bog alone. Children must always be supervised and no dogs please as efforts are in place to encourage birds to return. Thank you for understanding. In time, a woodland walkway is envisaged. The Drummin Bog Project is in its very early stages.
