What We Found Living in
Drummin Bog?

Fun Pond-Dipping & learning about
Frogs, Newts, Insects and Lizards on Drummin Bog

We had a wonderful, warm sunny day on Drummin Bog, learning all about Ireland’s lovely lizards, amphibians and reptiles with ecologist Tasneem Kahn from S.E.A School (Science, Ecology and Art School, Dunmore East) and James Hennessy Director of the National Reptile Zoo (Kilkenny).

With nets, trays and magnifying glasses, we learned a lot about the many creatures who call Drummin Bog home. Later, there were talks and information, and even a video field microscope to understand more about the diverse natural heritage of Drummin Bog.

The Drummin Bog Project gratefully acknowledges Tasneem Kahn of S.E.A School and the All Living Things Environmental Film Festival, and James Hennessy of Ireland’s National Reptile Zoo, Kilkenny who shared their passion and knowledge that helped create a memorable day.

The Drummin Bog Project also acknowledges the kind support of LAWPRO that enabled us to get pond-dipping nets and equipment that we will use for future Drummin Bog education events.

Drummin Bog Introductory Talk at St Mullins

We were delighted that the Friends of St Mullins Heritage group extended a warm invitation to share news about the Drummin Bog Project on the same day, for their Wild Child Events at St Mullins, South County Carlow Ireland.

PLEASE NOTE: Access to Drummin Bog is limited due to the sensitive nature of the habitat and its status as a wildlife reserve. Great precaution must be taken in visiting the bog due to its unmarked deep drains, and other hazards. It is therefore recommended people do not walk on the bog alone. Children must always be supervised and no dogs please as efforts are in place to encourage birds to return. Thank you for understanding. In time, a woodland walkway is envisaged. The Drummin Bog Project is in its very early stages.
